Our History

The Church is to be a pure and victorious Bride, one that is so powerful that even the Gates of Hell cannot prevail against Her. Yet, even though we have this promise, She has been a Church beset with problems, heresies, and infighting. During its most critical times, God has used His people to reestablish doctrinal purity. The Reformation was such a time when men of courage stood against the apostasy of their day to see the full authority of God’s Word once more proclaimed. One of the great outcomes of this epoch was the formation of our creed, the Westminster Standards of 1647.

But the Church later continued to be plagued by the traditions and greed of men, leading to further fragmentation. Historic doctrines were forgotten and emotionalism became the rule rather than reason. Church growth methods focused on persuasion rather than the proclamation of Christ and Him crucified. The mantra of many churches became, “Come as you are” with the unwritten expectation, “Stay as you are.”

It is in such a place that God chose to reveal Himself in the hearts of men and fathers. Our founding churches formed as God opened the truth of the Scriptures to elders who up to that point had been held in sway by modernity and compromise. God showed this group of men that victorious Christian living can come when the Bible is embraced in its fullness. This includes a trust in the historic faith, presbyterian polity, a commitment to the Biblical Creation model, biblical gender roles, and family-integrated worship.

These men were led to start the Covenant Presbyterian Church, a continuing, historic and confessing Church, with the prayer that their unique distinctives might usher in a new reformation in church, home, and society.

Committed to strengthening and equipping families rather than fragmenting and burdening them, Covenant Presbyterian Church prays that God will use this new work for His glory.
