We’ve added a new church: Church of the Covenant, Montrose, CO

On the Western Slope of Colorado everything is close by; of course, that takes a re-definition of “close by.” The nearest major cities – Denver, Salt Lake, and Santa Fe – are all 5 1/2 to 6 hrs drive away.  River rafting is close by (2 1/2  hrs); so is ice climbing (45 min), elk hunting (30 min), art studios, quilting, etc. (downtown). The vastness of the surrounding space and the arid climate produce three things in Christians: dependance upon the Lord, tenacity, and appreciation for friends. It is those virtues that are being put to service in founding this new work of the Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Church of the Covenant CPC in Montrose, CO is the product of decades of experience. Several of the members and regular attenders have been Christians longer than the pastor (at the young age of 40) has been alive. There are six men who are now or at one time were ordained officers in Reformed churches (PCA, OPC, and RPCNA) and their years of cumulative service approaches 7 decades.  Nearly all of us have worked to plant churches in the past—and not always successfully, we humbly note!  What draws us together now is love of God rooted in the love he first extended to us and love for his word & worship. That, of course, leads to love for one another.

It is said that the best things in life are free. From our perspective its true; forgiveness of sins and reconciliation with God cost us nothing because we, as poor debtors, had nothing to offer. But it came at a great cost to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who died a disgraceful death on our behalf. So we look to him and him alone for our justification and our sanctification. All of grace. Plus nothing. Minus nothing.
